Becoming a Community of Disciple-Making Disciples: Reaching a Community, Local & Global, with Christ’s Truth and Love

  • Pouring our lives into a few others by the Word & prayer that they may grow in Christ and know Christ
  • Committed to disciple-making beginning with our children and youth learning the gospel and the implications of following Jesus in all of life. Personally and corporately sharing the gospel with others in word and deed
  • Equipped to feed ourselves with God’s word, applying it in obedience, sharing it with others. Providing outreach friendly events & ministries to which unbelieving friends can be invited
  • Sharing our lives in mercy-giving, burden-bearing, mutually encouraging, Christ-centered care as a genuine fellowship of the saints. Engaging real needs in our community such that our absence would be missed by the community
  • Using our gifts in ministry. Growing a global minded mission’s outreach that is part of our community identity
  • Sending folks from our church family to serve Christ in other cultures

A Disciple-Making Community is a Worshipping Community –

In treasuring the glory of God whose blazing center is Christ, we joyfully devote our lives to God and one another

A Missional Community is a Worshipping Community –

Out of the joy of our salvation, we share Christ personally and corporately, locally and globally, in word and deed

Prayer

As a people who make much of God in worship, we will persistently pursue Him in faith-filled prayer, that the Father would glorify the Son through the work of the Spirit bearing this fruit among us and through us.

presbyterian church in america

  • We believe the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.
  • We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that all are sinners and totally unable to save themselves from God’s displeasure, except by His mercy.
  • We believe that salvation is by God alone as He sovereignly chooses those He will save.
  • We believe His choice is based on His grace, not on any human individual merit, or foreseen faith.
  • We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect life and sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him, alone, for salvation.
  • We believe that God is gracious and faithful to His people not simply as individuals but as families in successive generations according to His Covenant promises.
  • We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells God’s people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him.
  • We believe that Jesus will return, bodily and visibly, to judge all mankind and to receive His people to Himself.
  • We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

The PCA has made a firm commitment on the doctrinal standards which had been significant in presbyterianism since 1645, namely the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Westminster Shorter Catechism, and the Westminster Larger Catechism.  Among the distinctive doctrines of the Westminster Standards and of Reformed tradition is the unique authority of the Bible as the inspired word of God. The Reformers based all of their claims on sola scriptura (Scripture alone is the highest authority).

  • Mission

Our purpose is to glorify God by promoting a discipling, mission-minded environment at BEP that provides spiritual and financial support primarily to our church family serving here and around the world so that the gospel is advancing as orphans, widows, and aliens discover their God-given calling and purpose and are enabled to be and to make disciples. Matthew 28:19-20, James 1:27

  • Women

Our desire is to experience community by strengthening relationships with the Lord and with each other; investing in each other and “one-anothering” each other as sisters in Christ, and serving each other in practical ways.

  • Students

We're pursuing a place where friendships can be real and vulnerable,

and where there are older mentors to walk alongside students.

We're pursuing a place where God's Word is announced, explained,

We're pursuing a place that declares that Jesus loves us,

Our hope is to develop a growing culture & community of worship & worship leaders for the glory of God. Our desire is to foster the worship of God in all facets of life. All of life, but especially our corporate worship in Christ is marked by the following postures of worship.

Fearfully revering the glory of God, humble contrition and brokenness for sin, joyfully celebrating the grace of God in Christ, always founded upon the Scriptures.

Our worship teams that lead our congregation in worship. A desired hallmark of these small groups is that they simply enjoy & love one another as they worship and lead in worship.

Our style is a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary Christian worship music. If you are a musician and feel that you have a real calling to this ministry, please contact Erica Milbourne

WELCOME to BEP KIDS!

We are so honored to partner with your family as you raise your kids to be disciples of Jesus Christ.

It is our prayer that every child at BEP will

GROW in  their knowledge and love of God

CONNECT with their church family

SERVE others in love

We have a wonderful opportunity in these early years to lay a foundation for a life of faith. We want to help you fill your kids' minds and hearts with the beauty of the gospel, and with the knowledge of who God is and how He works in the world and in our lives. Together, our example of worship, prayer, service, and passion for God's Word will have an eternal impact!  On Sunday mornings,  our worship-hour and Christian Education (Sunday School) ministries provide engaging, joy-filled, Christ-centered, and gospel-focused lessons for kids of all ages

SUNDAYS: GROW & CONNECT

Kids are welcome in our worship! Praying, singing, confessing, and hearing God's Word proclaimed together is vital to the spiritual formation of our kids and is a means of God's grace to His people of all ages. You are welcome to keep your kids with you for the entirety of the service. Children up through 3rd grade are dismissed half-way through the service if you choose to send them to our Worship-hour Ministries:

The Garden” and “The Ark” | Nursery

Our place for babies and toddlers is staffed with loving volunteers who introduce our littlest ones to the love of Christ through snuggles, play, and simple Bible truths.

Promised Land” | Preschool, ages 3-5

Preschoolers are introduced to Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments and use the First Catechism to learn about God as our Creator. Imaginative play, prayer, songs, and movement create an engaging and joyful environment.

Children's Worship” | Grades K - 3rd

Using a three-year rotation, we teach an overview of the Bible and equip the next generation to worship their King! Two of those years involve the First Catechism for Children to systematically explore the great truths declared to us in Scripture. We sing engaging Bible verse songs with movement, play memory games, pray, and learn great hymns & newer songs of the faith as we worship together. The third year utilizes the “Teach Me To Worship” curriculum, as we learn about God's design for worship.

Christian Education | After worship, ages 0-5thgrade

The “Show Me Jesus” Sunday School curriculum helps kids to delight in Jesus and to incorporate Biblical truth into their lives. Our dedicated teachers present every story in the Bible in a way that points to God's great plan of salvation in sending his Son to redeem us.

We have twice-yearly Communicant classes for 5thgraders who are ready to join the church by profession of faith, taught by our Youth Pastor Jon Pickens.

By the time your child enters middle school, it is our goal to have them

firmly rooted in God's Word, fully connected to the body of Christ here at BEP

and excited about serving and sharing the gospel with others.

MONTHLY: CONNECT & SERVE

Elementary-schoolers can participate in our monthly Fantastic Fridays” fun family nights and join our Service Squad” team, which serves our church family and community through various service projects as we live out the gospel together. Dates and events are posted on the church calendar.

philosophy of Children's ministry

“ I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” 3 John 1:4

The purpose of Broadneck Evangelical Presbyterian Church's Children's Ministry is

to glorify God by making disciples of the next generation,

that they may tell of His marvelous works and reach others with Christ's truth and love.

We want them to
Grow in their knowledge and love of God,
Connect with the congregation and each other in covenant community, and

Serve others in love.

CORE VALUES

1. Relationships:
Our children are heirs of God's covenant promises and are precious in His sight! As a family of believers in Christ it is our duty and privilege to come alongside parents in the Christian nurture of their children, within the context of our covenant community.

Parents are called to be the primary infuencers for Christ to their children, and so the Children's Ministry is supplement to, not a replacement of, daily discipleship in the home. We want to equip and encourage parents as they raise their children, laying the foundation for a life of faith.

We want to equip and encourage teachers, identifying and developing the unique gifts God has given them to use for His glory, to build up His body at BEP.

As members of the covenant community, children are to be included in the life of the church and welcomed into the corporate worship and ministries of the congregation. We want them to feel important and loved in Christ, and develop meaningful, lasting relationships with people of all ages.

We desire to see our children take the next step of faith, in due time, by publicly confessing their faith in Christ and committing themselves to this body of believers as members.

2. Truth:
God has ordained Word and Spirit to work together in changing hearts. We seek to impart a thorough knowledge of Christian doctrine and Bible knowledge in age-appropriate and engaging ways-- laying the spiritual tinder and trusting the Holy Spirit to spark the fame of faith in His time.

All materials used in ministry should be true to the Reformed faith, Christ-centered, gospel-focused, and presented in a way that is winsome, understandable, and applicable, taking into account the developmental stage of each child. Teachers should be trained in how to show the character of God and the fulfllment of all His promises in Jesus in all that they teach.

Our goal is that this Truth will be made personal in the life of each child.

We encourage Scripture and catechism memorization-- to hide God's Word in hearts. We use the ` First Catechism (PCA) and the Westminster Shorter Catechism.

3. Prayer:
We persistently pursue God in faith-flled prayer, modeling it to our children and relying on His guidance in lesson preparations, student and parent interactions, ministry decisions, and in teaching.

4. Mission:
We desire that families would grow in their knowledge and love of God and live out daily obedience to Christ in their homes, schools, and communities-- reaching the lost and welcoming them into our church family.

We will welcome non-believing kids and their families with the love of Christ, seeking to evangelize and enfold.

5. Joy:
Teachers will demonstrate the joy of the Lord and their sure hope in the Gospel as they share the good news with kids!

We will encourage those who are teaching to diligently pursue the spiritual disciplines of prayer, Bible study, and worship, so that we may be fully satisfed in Him as we minister to children and families. “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:11). We want this JOY to be infectious!

how can i help?

Welcome to ALL who graciously choose to help teach & care for our children & youth. BEP is committed to the well being and safety of our children. Therefore, we ask every volunteer who will be interacting with children 18 years and younger to undergo a three step process:

STEP 1: Read BEP Child & Youth Protection Policy.

STEP 2: Print Appendix A of the policy, sign, date and out it in the lockbox at the back of the sanctuary.

STEP 3: Go to Protect My Ministry Link and complete the application.

STEP 4: You will receive an email invitation for training within a few days. Please complete the Protect My Ministry child safety training course and the 20 question ‘quiz’ at the end.

A background check will be performed by the nationally recognized firm Protect My Ministry. All information will remain strictly confidential. We encourage you to complete these steps as quickly as possible for a prompt clearance to serve.

The application takes a few minutes, the training and quiz takes approximately 35 minutes. The potential consequences of NOT adhering to a child protection policy far outweigh the cost and time associated with the necessary steps to implement. Thanks again for your time and patience.

  • Brian March

    Senior Pastor

Welcome to Broadneck EP Church! My name is Brian March and I’m the Senior Pastor of this wonderful Bible believing church on the Broadneck peninsula. I completed my MDiv in 2013 at the Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, and was called by BEP shortly after as an Associate Pastor. I began my ministry career in Lakeland, Florida, but have also served as a missionary in Ethiopia. It was serving the Lord in Ethiopia when I answered the call of God to finish seminary and pursue pastoral ministry. I’ll always have a heart for missions, but I absolutely love preaching, teaching, and shepherding the people of God in our church and community. My wonderful wife Adrienne and I love it here. Our four children (two boys, two girls) also love their church friends at BEP, and have found it a wonderful place to worship and know God. Adrienne and I are also adoptive parents, and have enjoyed walking through the adoption with our church family.

If you are seeking a church where you will hear Christ and Him crucified, I invite you to join us. We aim to fix our eyes on him because he is our hope, our joy, and our life. If you’d like to hear more about the God we love and serve, we’d love for you to come and join us.

  • Jon Pickens

Associate Pastor (Director of Student Ministries)

My wife, Amy, and I met and became friends while attending and working with the youth at the church where we grew up in Montgomery County, MD. We enjoy being outside (hiking, biking, camping, and the like), food, and just hanging out with people. I graduated from Geneva College, outside of Pittsburgh, with a degree in civil engineering. A civil engineering degree trained me to do several things…pastoral ministry was not one of them. So I attended Reformed Theological Seminary in McLean, VA where I received an MDiv. After seminary I served as an assistant pastor northeast of Philadelphia. I enjoy reading and, like Brian, reading theology. The gospel of Jesus Christ is awesome and being able to know Christ is the greatest privilege someone can possess. For me, being able to teach and preach Jesus Christ and pastor his people is the greatest job to be had.

  • Heather Deterding

    Director of Children's Ministries

    Part-Time Ministry Staff

I come from a family with parents who love to serve God and His church, especially in ministries to children.  I'm so thankful for them and for the saints who poured into my life at Aisquith PCA and New Covenant PCA as I grew up in Christ.  I met my husband Steve at our denomination's beloved middle school camp, Victory Jam, where we were youth interns. We both attended Grove City College, where I earned a degree in Elementary Education. After I graduated in December 2005, I married Steve and joined him at BEP. We are raising five wonderful daughters, enjoy gathering people together at our home, and love being a part of this church family. I've been on the Children's Ministry Team since 2008, alongside many faithful ministry coordinators and teachers.  It is a privilege to encourage and equip young families to abide in Christ and make Him the center of their lives and homes.

  • Olivia Patton

    Youth Intern

    Part-Time Ministry Staff

I graduated from Liberty University May 2022. I studied Church Ministry and Christian Leadership with a minor in Woman’s Ministry. I grew up in West River Maryland along with my three older siblings. I love playing sports, working out, coffee shops, adventures, and being with friends.  My heart’s desire is for young girls and women to taste and see that the Lord is who He says He is, by being in His word, in prayer, and in community.

  • Erica Milbourne

    Music Director

    Part-Time Ministry Staff

  • Dan Bajus

    Business Manager

    Part-Time Staff

Stacy & I were married in 1974 at EP Annapolis Church.  Both of us are from local families and we have been blessed to spend our entire marriage at AEP and BEP.   We have 4 beautiful daughters and 8 grandchildren. We have been at BEP since 1990 when Nina Martin invited our triplet girls to join Heather Peck in her Sunday School class. I have served in Youth Groups, Building Committee, Finance Ministry Team, Perspectives Community, as a deacon, and an elder.

  • Courtney Della

    Office Manager & Ministry Support

I proudly hail from West Virginia and happily call the Broadneck Peninsula home. My family first came to BEP for the Christ-centered youth ministry in 2001. My youngest daughter lives and works in Annapolis, my oldest daughter and her husband live in Annapolis with my three grandchildren, and my son and daughter-in-love are in Ohio.

Serving others for God is in BEP's "DNA." The Lord has blessed me abundantly with my family here at BEP and I enjoy serving at the “kitchen table” here in the office. Our staff's first priority is the person walking through the door, stop by if you need any help!

  • Tanya McGrath

    Administrative Assistant & Care Coordinator

My husband, Pat and I live in Annapolis, MD. We have one son, two daughters and two granddaughters. I am originally from New Jersey and met my husband in Annapolis. We have attended BEP for several years, and have found it a very warm and welcoming place to worship. I enjoy painting, running, singing on the worship team and spending time with family and friends. I consider it a blessing and a privilege to serve in the BEP office. It is wonderful to witness God working in and through the body of Christ here throughout the week.

  • Karin Howie

    Part-Time Staff

I grew up in southeast PA and came to know the Lord through Young Life.  I moved to MD in 1990 to teach special education in AACPS.  Brett and I married in 1993 and have four children and one grandson:  Marin, married to Josiah Jensen, Sophia, married to Andrew Hamby and mom to Alden, Max, married to Bekah, and Olivia.  I enjoy puzzles, traveling, fire pit conversations, and hosting people in our home.

  • Kathleen Brown

    Receptionist

    Part-Time Staff

  • Amy Dutterer

    Facility Caretaker

    Part-Time Staff

I was born in Cumberland, MD. I was born again in Glen Burnie, MD. I now live in Christ. By God’s amazing grace I am also a wife to one man and a mother to three boys. Our journey to the BEP church family began in earnest prayer through Psalm 25 and then an invitation from a friend. That first Sunday we entered into a place of unknowns but we heard the gospel preached, the Word of God highly valued and God honored in every prayer. Since then we have been learning what it means to be members of God’s household. We have known God’s amazing provision for us through the faithful preaching of God’s word and through the weekly encouragement alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ as we are all being changed and fitted together as living stones.
